How to connect your toy to Fallout 4
Fallout 4 mods can route in-game events to your toy through GIFT or similar log-watcher tools. Setup walkthrough for AAF and DD mod ecosystems.
Fallout 4 has a smaller but real adult mod community than Skyrim, centered around the Advanced Animation Framework (AAF), Devious Devices, and a few standalone mods. Driving a real toy from these mods uses the same general path as Skyrim: a log-watching tool (GIFT) or a custom plugin translates in-game events into Lovense or Buttplug commands.
ToyControl handles both protocols, so GIFT (or any similar tool) connects to ToyControl directly.
What you need
- Fallout 4 with AAF and your preferred adult mod set installed.
- A toy paired with ToyControl in your browser.
- The ToyControl helper app running on your computer.
- The Intiface bridge turned on in ToyControl's Game Link tab. Quit Intiface Central first if you have it installed; the two cannot share the port.
- GIFT (Game Interface For Toys), the log-watcher.
The setup
Step 1: Install GIFT
- Download GIFT from github.com/MinLL/GameInterfaceForToys.
- Extract to a folder.
- Run
gift.exe.
Step 2: Configure GIFT for Fallout 4
GIFT supports both Skyrim and Fallout 4. In its config, set the game type to Fallout 4 and point it at the Fallout 4 log directory (My Games/Fallout4/Logs or similar).
Step 3: Point GIFT at ToyControl
GIFT has two output options:
- Lovense: sends commands to a Lovense Connect endpoint. Point it at ToyControl's Game Link IP and port.
- Buttplug: sends commands via WebSocket. Point it at ToyControl's Intiface bridge URL.
Either works. The Buttplug path is more universal; the Lovense path is identical to other VR-game setups, which is convenient if you already use Game Link.
Step 4: Enable Fallout 4 logging
Some adult mods write events to the log file by default. Others need debug logging enabled in their MCM. Check the specific mod's documentation.
For AAF, the standard installation logs scene events that GIFT can read.
Step 5: Use it
Start Fallout 4. Then start GIFT. As scenes play in-game, GIFT detects them through the log file and forwards them to ToyControl. Your toy responds.
What about a native Fallout 4 plugin
The Fallout 4 toy-integration ecosystem is smaller and less consolidated than the one for Skyrim. GIFT is the most reliable path. Some Fallout 4-specific integration mods have appeared more recently, so it is worth checking the Lovers Lab and Schaken-Mods forums for the current state.
If you find a newer Fallout 4 plugin that talks to Buttplug or Lovense directly, it should work with ToyControl the same way (since we speak both protocols).
Tuning the feel
Standard ToyControl controls in the bottom bar:
- Multiplier for whole-session scaling.
- Speed range for floor and ceiling.
- Per-device intensity for individual toys.
Troubleshooting
GIFT does not detect events
- Confirm Fallout 4 is writing to its log file. Trigger a scene and look in the log directory.
- Make sure the mod producing the event has logging enabled in its MCM.
- GIFT polls the log file; give it a few seconds after the in-game event.
Connection refused
- Confirm ToyControl's helper app is running.
- Confirm GIFT's destination URL matches ToyControl's.
Fallout 4 Next-Gen update broke my mod stack
The April 2024 Next-Gen update broke many F4SE plugins. Check that your AAF version and any mod dependencies are updated for the Next-Gen patch. GIFT itself should still work (it does not depend on F4SE).
Toy responds late
GIFT polls the log file at a small interval. The delay is usually under a second, but for very rapid sequences the polling rate may not catch every event. This is a GIFT limitation, not a ToyControl one.
Privacy
GIFT is a local app that watches a local file. ToyControl is local through the helper app. No cloud is involved.
