How to connect your toy to Final Fantasy XIV
Two Dalamud plugins drive a toy from FFXIV combat and emote events. FFXIV Vibe Plugin and AetherSense Redux, both free, both Buttplug-based.
Final Fantasy XIV has a long history of community plugins, and two of them route in-game events to a real toy. FFXIV Vibe Plugin and AetherSense Redux are both configurable trigger plugins that respond to combat, abilities, and other in-game events.
Both use Buttplug.io, which connects directly to ToyControl through the Intiface bridge.
What you need
- Final Fantasy XIV installed.
- Dalamud installed (the FFXIV mod framework, popularised by XIVLauncher).
- One of the two plugins: FFXIV Vibe Plugin or AetherSense Redux.
- A toy paired with ToyControl in your browser.
- The ToyControl helper app running.
- The Intiface bridge turned on in ToyControl's Game Link tab. Quit Intiface Central first if you have it installed; the two cannot share the port.
Step 1: Install Dalamud
Most modded FFXIV setups use XIVLauncher (the community launcher) which installs Dalamud automatically. If you do not have it:
- Download XIVLauncher from goatcorp.github.io.
- Install and configure it to launch FFXIV.
- Dalamud is installed when you first launch through XIVLauncher.
Step 2: Add the plugin's third-party repo
Both plugins live in third-party Dalamud repos (Square Enix does not endorse them).
- In FFXIV, open the Dalamud configuration: type
/xlsettingsin chat. - Go to the Experimental tab.
- Under Custom Plugin Repositories, add the third-party repo URL for your chosen plugin (see plugin GitHub page).
- Click Save and close.
Step 3: Install the plugin
- Type
/xlpluginsto open the plugin browser. - Search for FFXIV Vibe Plugin or AetherSense Redux.
- Install.
Step 4: Configure the plugin
- Open the plugin's configuration in Dalamud.
- Set the Buttplug server URL to ToyControl's Intiface bridge URL (visible in ToyControl's Game Link tab).
- Save.
Step 5: Play
Log into FFXIV. The plugin connects to ToyControl. As combat or emotes happen, the plugin fires toy events.
FFXIV Vibe Plugin vs AetherSense Redux
| FFXIV Vibe Plugin | AetherSense Redux | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Configurable triggers for combat, abilities, chat, and patterns | Configurable triggers for combat, emotes, and more |
| Best for | A broad, well-documented plugin most users start with | An alternative with its own trigger model |
If you are new, FFXIV Vibe Plugin is the more common starting point. AetherSense Redux is a solid alternative for users who prefer its approach.
Tuning the feel
In ToyControl's bottom bar:
- Multiplier for whole-session scaling. FFXIV combat can fire a lot of events; start at 0.5x.
- Speed range max to cap peaks.
- Per-device intensity for individual toys.
In the plugin's config, you can also adjust per-event intensity (damage X = response Y).
Troubleshooting
Plugin not in Dalamud's repo
Make sure you added the right third-party repo URL. Each plugin's GitHub page has the exact URL to paste.
Plugin loads but no toy response
- Confirm ToyControl's helper app is running.
- Verify the Buttplug URL in the plugin's config matches ToyControl's.
- Click Test toy in ToyControl.
- Trigger an event the plugin is configured to watch (take damage in a duty).
FFXIV update broke Dalamud
This happens with every major FFXIV patch. Dalamud and plugins usually update within a day. Wait and update.
Privacy
All Dalamud plugins run locally on your computer. ToyControl runs locally. No FFXIV data is sent anywhere outside your local network.
A note on Square Enix: Dalamud and its plugins are third-party. Square Enix's ToS does not technically allow them. Bans for use of Dalamud have been extremely rare historically, but be aware.
