How to connect your toy to Hollow Knight

Buttplug Knight is a community mod for Hollow Knight that triggers toy responses on combat damage. Install through Hollow Knight's Modding API.

Hollow Knight is a tough Metroidvania, and Buttplug Knight maps its combat damage to toy responses. Get hit by a Mantis Lord, the toy lets you know. Pog a Hornet attack, the toy lets you know that too.

Buttplug Knight uses the Hollow Knight Modding API and talks to Buttplug.io. ToyControl connects directly through the Intiface bridge.

What you need

Hollow Knight installed (Steam, GOG, or Xbox app).
Hollow Knight Modding API.
Buttplug Knight.
A toy paired with ToyControl in your browser.
The ToyControl helper app running.
The Intiface bridge turned on in ToyControl's Game Link tab. Quit Intiface Central first if you have it installed; the two cannot share the port.

Step 1: Install the Modding API

Use Lumafly, the community-recommended mod installer for Hollow Knight. It handles the Modding API and individual mod installs through a clean UI.

Step 2: Install Buttplug Knight

In Lumafly:

Search for Buttplug Knight.
Click Install.

Step 3: Configure

Launch Hollow Knight once via Lumafly. The mod creates a config in your save data folder. Edit it to set the Buttplug server URL to ToyControl's Intiface bridge URL (visible in ToyControl's Game Link tab).

Step 4: Play

Damage taken in combat fires intensity. Stronger attacks (or bosses) fire stronger responses. Healing soul also triggers a brief response in some configurations.

Tuning the feel

Hollow Knight bosses can hit hard and fast. Start at Multiplier 0.4-0.6x in ToyControl's bottom bar. Set Speed range max to 60.

Troubleshooting

Mod not loading

Make sure Lumafly says the mod is enabled for your Hollow Knight version.
Check Hollow Knight's Modding API logs.

Connected but no response

Confirm ToyControl is running with the helper app.
Verify the Buttplug URL in the mod config.
Click Test toy in ToyControl.

Steam achievements?

Modded saves on Hollow Knight do not disable achievements. You can earn them with Buttplug Knight running.

Local only. The mod runs on your computer; ToyControl is local; the game is local.
