Anonymous account vs email account
ToyControl gives you two ways to sign in. Skip with an anonymous account, or use a magic-link email. Here is what changes between them.
When you first open ToyControl, you have two ways in: enter an email and get a magic link, or skip with an anonymous account. Both work. The difference is what happens when you switch browsers or computers.
Anonymous account
You click Continue without an account on the Welcome screen. ToyControl creates an account with no email attached. Your settings (library, patterns, paired toys) save and reload every time you come back to this browser on this computer.
If you lose this browser (clear cookies, switch to another browser, switch to another computer), the account is gone. You start fresh.
Use anonymous when:
- You want to try ToyControl quickly with no email.
- You only use one browser.
- You want to leave no trace of an email on the site.
Email account
You enter your email on the Welcome screen. ToyControl sends a link (and a 6-digit code) to that email. Click the link, or paste the code, and you are signed in.
Your settings sync to the account, not the browser. Next time you sign in (any browser, any computer), the same settings come back.
Use email when:
- You want to use ToyControl on a laptop, phone, and partner's computer.
- You want to keep your library between browser updates and reinstalls.
- You plan to subscribe to Pro (Pro is tied to the account).
Switching from anonymous to email
If you started anonymous and want to keep your settings while adding an email, you can. ToyControl has an upgrade path that preserves your existing user ID.
- Open the Account page.
- Find the "Identity" section.
- Enter your email and click Add email.
- Check your inbox for the confirmation link.
- Click the link.
Your anonymous account is now tied to that email. All your settings, library, and patterns come along. You can sign in on any other computer with the same email.
Switching from email to anonymous
There is no formal downgrade. If you want to "make an account anonymous" you can sign out and then create a new anonymous account. This is rarely useful.
Password accounts
If you signed up early with a password instead of a magic link, you still have that. Use the "Have a password account?" link on the Welcome screen. The magic-link path is recommended for new users.
What follows your account
These persist to your account when you have an email:
- Per-device settings (multiplier, speed range, intensity, sync offset).
- Saved patterns (when supported).
- Library scripts (the metadata, not the script files themselves; see below).
- Subscription status (Pro or Free).
- Trial usage remaining.
These do not sync across devices:
- Library script files. The actual
.funscriptfiles live in your browser storage (imported) or on your disk (folder mode). If you sign in on another computer, you will need to re-import or re-grant folder permissions there. - Display name in Remote Control rooms (set per session).
Privacy posture
Anonymous accounts are tracked by a random user ID. We never know your email. We never log who you are.
Email accounts are tracked by user ID too; the email is just a way to recover the account on a new browser. We do not log emails in usage events. See How private is ToyControl really.
