Music sync
Music sync listens to music through your microphone or your computer's audio and pulses your toy on the beat. Good for parties or playing along with a track.
Music sync is a source. It listens to music and pulses your toy on the beat. No script, no video, just whatever is playing.
What it is
Music sync turns sound into movement. It listens to a music stream, finds the beat, and fires a pulse on your toy each time the beat lands. Faster, louder music drives a busier toy; quiet passages ease off.
Two ways to listen
Music sync can take its sound from one of two places:
- Microphone: it listens to the room through your computer's microphone. Good for music on a speaker, a party, or a partner's track.
- Computer audio: it listens to the sound your computer is playing, like a browser tab or a music app. Your browser asks which window or tab to share, and you tick the option to share its audio. Not every browser offers this; if it is greyed out, use the microphone instead.
You can switch between the two while it is running. Your choice is remembered for next time.
How to start it
- Pair a toy.
- Open Music sync from the source picker on the device's card.
- Pick Microphone or Computer audio.
- Press Listen.
The first time you use the microphone, your browser asks for permission. You have to allow it, once.
Music sync cannot run at the same time as Broadcast on the same toy. Stop one before starting the other.
The screen
- The status disc pulses while it is listening.
- BPM shows the tempo it has locked onto.
- OUT shows what is being sent to your toy right now, as a percentage.
- The heatmap below shows the sound it is hearing, scrolling right to left.
Tuning
Three sliders under the heatmap fine-tune the feel:
- Sync offset: fires each pulse slightly ahead of the beat, so the toy's own start-up delay does not make it feel late. If the toy feels behind the music, raise this.
- Beat length: how long each pulse holds. A longer pulse helps slower or weaker toys register the beat.
- Intensity: the toy's output multiplier, the same control as on the device card. Lower it if the pulses feel too strong.
If it is not working
- No permission: if you blocked the microphone, the browser will not ask again. Re-allow it from the small icon in the address bar, then press Listen again.
- Computer audio is greyed out: your browser cannot share tab or system audio. Use the microphone.
- Nothing happens: check the music is loud enough for the microphone to hear, and that a toy is paired.
