What kind of computer do you need to use ToyControl
Almost any modern computer runs ToyControl. Here is what actually matters, and what does not.
People often assume an interactive-toy setup needs a powerful computer. It does not. Here is honestly what you need.
The short answer
Almost any computer made in the last eight years or so. ToyControl runs in a web browser, and a browser does not ask much of the hardware.
What actually matters
- The right browser. ToyControl needs Chrome or Edge on a desktop, or Chrome on Android. Safari and Firefox do not work. See Which browser works with ToyControl.
- Bluetooth. The computer needs Bluetooth to reach the toy. Laptops almost always have it. Many desktops do not, in which case a small USB adapter fixes it. See Do I need a USB Bluetooth dongle.
- Enough power to play a video. If your computer plays a video smoothly, it has enough power for ToyControl.
What does not matter
- A gaming graphics card, unless you specifically want PCVR.
- A large amount of memory.
- The newest processor.
A modest laptop is completely fine.
The VR exception
For standalone VR, the headset does the heavy lifting and your computer just runs ToyControl. For PCVR specifically, you do need a gaming PC, but that is a choice about VR quality, not a ToyControl requirement. See PCVR vs Quest standalone.
Verdict
You almost certainly already own a computer that runs ToyControl well. If anything is missing, it is usually just Bluetooth on a desktop, and a cheap adapter solves that.
