The Handy, a full review for ToyControl users
The Handy is the most popular WiFi stroker. Here is how it works with ToyControl, where it wins, and where it trails Bluetooth strokers.
The Handy is the most popular interactive stroker in the world, and the one that works differently from everything else on the ToyControl shortlist: it connects over WiFi, not Bluetooth.
What it is
The Handy is a handheld stroker with a strong, long-stroke motor. Instead of pairing with your computer over Bluetooth, it joins your home WiFi and is reached through The Handy's own online service.
Where it works with ToyControl
ToyControl's WiFi support for The Handy is in active development. Before buying a Handy mainly to use with ToyControl, check that it is working in your build. Many SLR Interactive scenes target The Handy directly, which is part of its appeal regardless. For how a WiFi toy connects, see How a WiFi sex toy actually connects.
Strengths
- A strong motor with a genuinely long stroke.
- WiFi means no Bluetooth range limit. The toy and the computer just share a network.
- No Bluetooth adapter needed, useful for desktops without one.
- Huge content support. The Handy is a first-class target for VR script sites.
Trade-offs
- It depends on an internet connection and The Handy's online service. A Bluetooth toy keeps working if your internet drops.
- The WiFi path adds a small round trip compared with a direct Bluetooth link.
- ToyControl's Handy support is newer than its Bluetooth backends.
Who it is for
People with poor Bluetooth setups, multi-room households, or anyone who already owns one and watches a lot of Handy-targeted VR content. If you want the simplest, most local setup, a Bluetooth stroker is still the easier path. See Bluetooth vs WiFi sex toys.
Bottom line
The Handy is an excellent stroker with a different set of trade-offs. For ToyControl specifically, treat the WiFi support as in progress and verify it before relying on it. See The best interactive strokers.
