Updating your payment card
Update your Pro subscription card from the Account page. Opens Stripe's billing portal where you can update your card, view invoices, and change plan.
If your card expired, you got a new one, or you just want to switch payment methods, you update everything from your Account page in ToyControl. The actual card update happens in Stripe's hosted billing portal; we never see your card details.
How to update your card
- Open ToyControl at toycontrol.app.
- Sign in if you are not already.
- Open the Account page (click your account info in the sidebar, or use the menu).
- Find the subscription section.
- Click Manage billing in Stripe.
- Stripe's billing portal opens in a new tab.
- Click Update payment method.
- Enter your new card details.
- Save.
Your subscription is now tied to the new card. Your next billing cycle uses the new card automatically.
What you can also do in the Stripe portal
While you are there, the portal lets you:
- Download past invoices for accounting or expense reports.
- Update your billing address.
- Cancel your subscription (alternative to ToyControl's cancel button; both work).
- Change plan if multiple plans are offered.
If your card expired and your subscription failed
When a card payment fails, Stripe retries automatically over a few days. During the retry window:
- ToyControl shows a warning in the Account page.
- You receive an email from Stripe asking you to update your payment method.
- Pro features stay active during the retry window.
To fix it, update your card with the steps above. Stripe re-tries immediately and your subscription returns to good standing.
If all retries fail, your subscription is cancelled and you drop to the Free tier. You can resubscribe any time.
A note on the descriptor
Charges on your bank or card statement show as TCTRL. If you see a TCTRL charge and you do not recognise it, it is ToyControl Pro.
Privacy
Stripe handles all card data. We see only:
- Your customer ID (a Stripe identifier).
- Your subscription status (active, cancelled, past due, etc.).
- Your billing date.
We do not see card numbers, CVVs, or full names on the card.
Troubleshooting
"Manage billing in Stripe" does not open
- Pop-up blockers can prevent the new tab. Allow pop-ups for
toycontrol.app. - Try a different browser if the portal does not load.
Cannot sign in to update the card
- Make sure you are signed in with the same email or account that owns the subscription. Anonymous accounts cannot recover the portal if you lost the browser cookie; contact us if this is the case.
Stripe says my card is declined
- Check the card with your bank. Many cards block "international" or "subscription" charges by default.
- Try a different card.
- Use a virtual card from a service like Privacy.com if you prefer.
