Sharing a room link with your partner
The fastest way to start a Remote Control session is sending the room URL. Your partner clicks it, the app opens, they are in.
The 5-letter code is what powers a Remote Control room, but typing five letters into a website is not always the smoothest experience. ToyControl also gives you a direct link for each room. Send the link to your partner, they click it, the app opens at the room.
How to get the link
When you create a room as the receiver:
- ToyControl shows the 5-letter code.
- Next to the code, there is a Copy link button.
- Click it. The full room URL is copied to your clipboard.
The URL looks like https://toycontrol.app/remote/ABCD (with your room's actual code).
How to share it
Paste the URL into any messaging app:
- Text message.
- Signal, WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram.
- Discord DM.
- Email.
Your partner clicks it. The link opens ToyControl in their browser, jumps to the Group play screen, and pre-fills the code in the Join a room card. They just click Join room.
A note on link visibility
The link contains the 5-letter code in the URL. Anyone who sees the link (in a screenshot, in a forwarded message) can use it to join the room until the room closes.
For private rooms, this is usually fine because you only share the link with one person. For public rooms, anyone can find the room in the lobby anyway, so the link is no extra exposure.
If you accidentally share the link with the wrong person, disconnect the room. The code becomes invalid immediately. You can create a new room with a new code.
Mobile users
A link works the same way on a phone:
- On Android, the link opens ToyControl in Chrome.
- On iPhone or iPad, the link opens in whatever browser they have set as default. If they are using Bluefy to pair toys on iOS, they should copy the link and paste it into Bluefy. See How to use ToyControl on iPhone or iPad.
When to use the code instead of the link
A few situations:
- In-person. You are together physically and one of you tells the other the five letters. Faster than fishing for a link.
- You are not sure the receiver has the link app available. Read it over voice or write it down.
- The link does not work for some reason. Falling back to typing the code in the Join a room card on the Group play screen always works.
